Pete Briley’s solo endeavours provided access to explore alternate styles and genres away from the Country-Rock feel of the brilliant Outlaw Orchestra and now with his solo career
building momentum on its own merits – “Colour (California)” represents another stride forward in both showcasing undeniable talent as well as musical mastery… the overrated
upstart is back!

“Colour (California)” will be released on all digital platforms on 16.08.24 and follows a seriously impressive track record of 4/5 previous singles released being showcased through BBC Introducing, as well as having been featured in Track of the Week as well as Tracks of the Year in 2023. His final release, “Highflyer” has surpassed 11k streams, leaving the upward trajectory of this artist there for all to see.

Telling the story of a trip to the American state, “Colour (California)” is the perfect up-temp soundtrack to the summer, and heralds another energetic and upbeat collaboration with Jonny Moody (Mood Market Studios). “I feel like there is more colour in California, everything at home is all shades of grey” Pete recalls telling his wife during their travels.

This really is a statement track, with the four-bar pattern having a different number of beats in each bar (5 / 7 / 5 / 6) – and it really works. The lyrics referencing the Kerouac and the Beat
poets who are also all a little off-kilter, complement this time signature perfectly. This track transports you to Pete’s adventure hanging out in the old haunts, bookshops and bars of the Beat Generation
