“’BLOOM’ is my favourite song I’ve written.” Quite the opening statement from James O’Hurley, who is preparing to release his 4th single from his upcoming debut album – “A Certain Stranger” (Album release 14/02/2025).
Quite the statement when you consider the success of Jame’s previous releases,
‘Maria’, ‘Red’, and ‘Evil’ – this singer-songwriter is steadily and consistently reaching a wider audience – something reflected in his first solo live performance in December.
Dubbed the ‘Bexleyheath troubadour’ as his solo work began to reach the surface. James O’Hurley has quite the story behind him. Before embarking on his journey as a solo artist just over a year ago… James was ready to give it all up, save for a niggling feeling to just give it one last try – and we couldn’t be happier that he did.
To give its full title – “Bloom (Song for a Roscommon Girl)” further reinforces James’ Celtic roots, and for an artist who is fiercely private – O’Hurley pours out some deeply personal feelings through this latest release. “(two ideas juxtaposed together to create a cinematic version of the truth” James tells us, “heavily influenced by the James Joyce opus Ulysses and my own story of a love for Ireland, and the romantic mythology Joyce’s novel evokes”
Semi-Autobiographical lyrics, fused with the imagery of love in the streets of Dublin.
