The Story Behind “Can’t Help Myself”
“Can’t Help Myself” is a haunting yet beautiful dive into the feeling of losing control while trying to hold it all together. Inspired by Can’t Help Myself—a 2016 art installation by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu—the song mirrors the relentless cycle of a machine programmed to
sustain itself, endlessly trying to contain a fluid that keeps slipping away. The installation’s desperate, almost human-like struggle became the perfect metaphor for the song’s emotional weight.
Set alongside melancholy piano and synths, the almost robotic verses carry a deep sense of longing, while the chorus’ explode into an emotion-infused wave of melodic bass. The contrast between fragility and force makes “Can’t Help Myself” both cathartic and devastating, capturing the weight of fighting a battle you can’t seem to win. That raw emotion is felt in every note, pulling the listener into a world where beauty and collapse exist side by side.
“Can’t Help Myself” is for anyone who’s ever felt trapped in a loop—pushing forward, breaking down, and still refusing to stop.
