LIANG LAWRENCE ALT-POP RISING STAR LIANG LAWRENCE RELEASES NEW EP ‘IT’S A FUNNY THING’

Liang Lawrence, one of the UK’s most exciting new alt-pop voices, today releases her highly anticipated EP ‘It’s A Funny Thing’ via The Other Songs.

The six-track collection captures Liang’s unique ability to fuse sun-drenched, melody-rich alt-pop with sharp lyrical storytelling that balances intimacy and universality. Brimming with self-reflection, playful wit, and radiant hooks, ‘It’s A Funny Thing’ cements Liang as a singular talent in the UK’s emerging music landscape.

Speaking on the project, Liang says:

“‘It’s A Funny Thing’ is more vulnerable than I have ever been in my music, not only in its honesty but also in its truthfulness in how those vulnerabilities are often expressed. I wanted to talk about all these difficult things without it feeling too heavy. It is whimsy and playful while also being incredibly dark and cynical. I think it’s so human to approach difficult situations with humour and lightheartedness and to try and buffer heavy conversations with throwaway phrases like “it’s a funny thing!”. I love this EP so much, it’s truly my heart on a plate. I love to dance and two step and cry and wail to it.”

The EP features recent singles ‘Thoughtless’, a glittering, hook-filled moment of raw honesty, and ‘A Day Off In Margaritaville’, a breezy yet bittersweet anthem. The former hailed as a ‘Future Bop’ by BBC Radio 1, where it received heavy support from Alyx Holcombe, Sian Eleri, Maia Beth and Tara Kumar. Together, these tracks showcase Liang’s gift for crafting anthems that resonate with both emotional weight and feel-good ease.

Liang’s ascent has only accelerated in recent months. On the day of the EP release, she has been confirmed as Spotify’s RADAR artist – a major milestone that follows a breakthrough year. She recently performed on CBBC’s Saturday Mash-Up, and is currently on tour across the UK and Europe supporting Grent Perez, bringing her dynamic live show to packed audiences.

This release follows a string of career highlights including an Ivor Novello Rising Star Award nomination, a coveted BBC Introducing Stage slot at Radio 1’s Big Weekend, supporting BASTILLE and over 27 million global streams to date.

At the heart of Liang’s artistry is community. A central figure in a flourishing network of singer-songwriters, she continues to carve out a space for women in alt-pop. Earlier this year she hosted her own all-female showcase, spotlighting peers Hetta Falzon and Jo Hill, plus a special guest appearance from Matilda Mann during Liang’s headline set.

To celebrate the release, Liang will take ‘It’s A Funny Thing’ on the road for her biggest headline tour to date – a chance for fans to experience the new EP in it’s most powerful form.
