LOS ANGELES, CA (NOVEMBER 20, 2025) – Flight To London, the synth-pop collaboration of Jimmy McGorman and Robb Vallier, are set to release their debut album Instructions For Losing Control tomorrow, November 21 via earthprogram/Virgin Music – Pre-Save HERE. Flight To London was born from a deep obsession with ’80s icons like Tears For Fears, Phil Collins, and Depeche Mode. Their album is a masterclass in New-stalgia.
The 10 tracks explore themes of modern relationships, digital-age anxiety, and the peculiar nostalgia we feel for times we may have never actually experienced. The songs are meticulously crafted, featuring lush harmonies that cascade over vintage synth textures, unexpected key changes that catch listeners off guard, and production that balances analog warmth with digital precision.
Flight To London released their debut song “No One’s Forgiven” on September 19 and premiered the music video with Magnet Magazine (Watch it HERE) who said, “Flight To London’s fine-tuned facsimile of synth pop’s ’80s heyday surpasses mere tribute-minded affectation. Credit highly skilled co-conspirators Jimmy McGorman and Robb Vallier…Out November 21 via earthprogram/Virgin Music, their impeccably crafted debut LP, Instructions For Losing Control, humanizes its digital precision with an analog warmth for a nostalgia trip that’s strikingly of-the-moment.” The song hints at the insanity of the current political landscape while channeling the tension of a fractured and divided society, media manipulation, and the fatigue of trying to make sense of it all. The production is insistent and rhythmically relentless, recalling The Hurting-era Tears For Fears.
The duo released their “Walls” on October 24 – Listen HERE. The song is about the human urge to tear down the barriers we build — and to rebuild them again. LA session legend Charlean Carmon (Harry Styles, Carrie Underwood, Leonard Cohen), joins the duo on vocals, and features Foo Fighter’s Rami Jaffe on Hammond Organ, Clavinet, and Rhodes piano, Jon Button (The Who, Rachael Yamagata, Sheryl Crow) on bass, Eric Fawcett (Pharrell Williams, N.E.R.D, Spymob) on drums, and Jack Karlson’s Democracy Manifest which underlays the track.
Flight To London was created out of equal parts desire and frustration: the desire to create music like the melodic, densely produced, sonically adventurous songs they loved in the ’80s, and the frustration of listening to their original compositions being altered by other artists. Both have successful careers, McGorman as a musician, songwriter, and producer with credits including work with Goo Goo Dolls (he’s in their band – see him perform on NPR’s Tiny Desk HERE), New Radicals, Weezer, Avril Lavigne, and Gwen Stefani and Vallier, who’s collaborated with Dave Stewart, Gin Blossoms, and Sabrina Carpenter among others but after years of writing and producing for other artists, “we’re finally pouring our hearts into our own long-awaited dream: our debut album,” says the duo. “Every track is a raw snapshot of the past twelve months, capturing who we are as musicians, friends, and people navigating this complex world together. These songs carry our hearts and our hurt.”
The album’s title, Instructions For Losing Control, captures their philosophy perfectly: in a world that demands constant control and optimization, Flight To London creates space for beautiful messiness. The cover art for the album was also thoughtfully chosen. Robb found a collage by artist Robert Pollard (lead singer of the band Guided By Voices) so they reached out to Robert, and he gracefully agreed to let them use the artwork.
Flight To London has created a sound that honors their influences without being confined by them. “If you’ve never heard our music before, prepare for a journey through light and shadow, inspiration and frustration, hope and heartbreak,” said the pair. “We want you to feel it all. If even one song stays with you long after the last note fades, then every late night in the studio, every vulnerable lyric, every risk we took will have been worth it. This is just the beginning of Flight To London. We hope you’ll join us for what comes next.”
