From Hans Zimmer to the GRAMMY®s: Zain Effendi’s Rise in Modern Composition

Composer Zain Effendi finds himself among Hollywood’s elite in this year’s GRAMMY® nominee lineup. Trained at Berklee College of Music and The Boston Conservatory, Effendi’s foundation was shaped by the very scores that define the modern cinematic era. At just 23, he was invited by Hans Zimmer to join Remote Control Productions, where he contributed to iconic films including The Dark KnightPirates of the Caribbean: At World’s EndTransformers, and Kung Fu Panda. Immersed early in excellence, Effendi quickly moved from collaborator to singular voice.

That voice now resonates across Disney’s most ambitious projects, spanning film, immersive environments, hotel scoring, and ride orchestrations. His work can be heard daily throughout Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Disney’s Starcruiser Hotel, and Shanghai Disneyland’s Adventure in Rhythm. Distinct from his predecessors, Effendi has forged a path that bridges Hollywood scoring and real-world, large-scale experiences — bringing cinematic craft to every stage and redefining where modern composition can live.

Zain is currently nominated for Best Instrumental Composition for his piece “Opening,” a breathtaking work created for Disney’s EPCOT: Test Track.
