Blade Baksi Returns to His Roots with First Bengali Song ‘Notun Itihaas’ Featuring Soumya Ghosh

Indo-Canadian musician and guitarist Blade Baksi continues to expand his global musical footprint with a deeply personal and culturally significant new collaboration. Teaming up with acclaimed Kolkata-based singer and songwriter Soumya Ghosh, also known as SOM, Baksi releases Notun Itihaas (New History), a song that bridges continents, languages, and artistic legacies.

Created remotely from two corners of the world—Blade Baksi working from Canada and SOM recording from Kolkata, India—Notun Itihaas reflects the modern reality of global music-making. Despite the physical distance, the collaboration feels organic and emotionally unified, driven by shared creative intent rather than geography or limitations.

“For me, Notun Itihaas isn’t just another release,” says Blade Baksi. “It’s my first song in Bengali, my mother tongue. That alone makes it incredibly special. No matter where I go musically, Kolkata is where everything began for me.

The Bengali language carries particular weight for Baksi. Born and raised in Kolkata, the city represents both his birthplace and the starting point of his musical journey. While Baksi has since built an international presence as an instrumental rock artist, composer and guitar player of Canadian Hair Metal icon Lÿnx, Notun Itihaas marks a powerful return to his roots, both linguistically and emotionally.“

Writing and composing in Bengali felt like reconnecting with a part of myself I hadn’t fully expressed before,” Baksi adds. “This song allowed me to tell a story that’s personal, relatable and motivational.”

Soumya Ghosh brings formidable experience and depth to the project. A respected figure in Kolkata’s rock and independent music scene, SOM is best known as the vocalist of Kolkata-based hard rock band Inferno. Over the years, he has also served as the frontman for notable acts such as Nucleus and Folktales, earning recognition for his expressive vocals, lyrical sensitivity, and commanding presence.“

What drew me to this collaboration was the emotion behind the music,” says SOM. “Blade had a clear vision, but he also gave the song space to breathe. Even though we worked remotely, there was a strong creative connection from the start.”

SOM’s vocal performance in Notun Itihaas blends power with restraint, complementing Baksi’s classic rock sound and melodic structure. Together, the artists create a sound that feels contemporary while remaining rooted in tradition, resonating with listeners across cultures and geographies.

“At its core, Notun Itihaas is about beginnings,” SOM explains. “It’s about writing a new chapter while honoring where you come from.”

The release stands as a compelling example of how independent artists are redefining collaboration in the digital age. With no borders, no shared studios, and no compromises on artistic integrity, Blade Baksi and Soumya Ghosh have crafted a song that speaks to identity, distance, and shared history.

As Baksi continues to evolve as a global artist, Notun Itihaas represents a defining moment, celebrating heritage while pushing his sound into new territory and solidifying his growing presence on the international music stage. It also signals a confident step forward for cross-cultural Bengali music in contemporary global rock spaces worldwide.

Notun Itihaas has been released through Bullzhorn Records (Canada) and is available on all digital streaming platforms.
