EVEN AI KNOWS YOU’RE LONELY: FROM DOOM SCROLLING TO SELF-AWARENESS

The Butterfly In You: Finding the End to Loneliness by Sheri Mandell, A Tarot-Guided Journey Back to Self

“A perfect harmony of bringing the ancient wisdom of Tarot together with artificial intelligence.” — Mark Victor Hanson, Publisher

It’s a crowded world, but you don’t even feel connected to yourself. There is a kind of loneliness that no one talks about, the kind that lingers even when you’re surrounded by people, scrolling, working, living your life. It’s the kind that doesn’t disappear in a full room or a busy life, and for millions, it’s becoming impossible to ignore. We are more connected than ever, yet millions feel deeply alone. Nearly 1 in 3 U.S. adults report feeling lonely, with over half of Americans experiencing it at some point. As Mother’s Day approaches, a time centered on connection, identity, and emotional reflection, this quiet disconnection feels especially present. With the upcoming release of her debut book, The Butterfly in You: Finding the End to Loneliness, mindfulness teacher and author Sheri Mandell brings this struggle into the light, using the archetypal language of tarot as a powerful tool for self-reflection to reveal the patterns behind disconnection and the path back to ourselves. The Butterfly in You: Finding the End to Loneliness published by Mark Victor Hansen Library will be released May 14 and is now available for pre-order on Barnes and Noble, Walmart, Amazon, and Books-A-Million.

“Loneliness isn’t just about being physically alone. It’s about losing connection with yourself. The Butterfly in You is a journey through the patterns that shape our lives, using the archetypal story of the tarot to help readers recognize their own cycles and begin transforming them,” says Mandell.

Blending memoir, mindfulness, and symbolic storytelling, The Butterfly in You guides readers through the emotional patterns that shape their lives using the structure of tarot’s Major Arcana, not as a mystical practice, but as a tool for self-reflection and awareness. The result is a powerful and accessible framework for anyone seeking a deeper connection with themselves and others.

The book emerged from Mandell’s own experience of profound loneliness, not just a lack of connection to others, but a disconnection from parts of herself she had long suppressed. “I didn’t write this book because I had all the answers. I wrote it because I was searching for them. Tarot became a mirror that helped me see my patterns clearly for the first time, and once we can see our patterns, we can change them.”

What began as a private journaling practice has since evolved into a broader philosophy she now calls the “Return to Self” movement, a growing conversation around emotional awareness, presence, and reconnection in an overstimulated world. “I believe loneliness is one of the quiet epidemics of our time. The Butterfly in You is not just my story, it’s an invitation for readers to rediscover themselves. When we learn to sit with our own lives honestly, ask better questions, and recognize our patterns, we begin to reconnect, not just with others, but with who we truly are.”

As explored in the book, even modern tools like artificial intelligence can serve as unexpected mirrors for self-inquiry and reflection, offering new ways for individuals to process emotions and uncover deeper truths.

Mandell brings more than 15 years of experience as a mindfulness and meditation educator to her work. She is the founder of 123 Breathe With Me, a program developed in the years following COVID to support children, families, and educators through emotional awareness practices. The program is inspired by the work of Andrew Jordan Nance and his Mindfulness in the Classroom approach, which introduced Mandell to bringing mindfulness into school settings. Prior to this, she focused on teaching guided meditation in person at senior communities and recreation centers. Her background also includes training through the Chopra Center for Wellbeing and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, as well as immersive spiritual study in India.

Her career path has been anything but conventional. Before entering the wellness space, Mandell worked as a stylist in the music industry with major labels including RCA, CBS, and Warner Bros. Records, earning a platinum record for her work with Faith Hill.

With The Butterfly in You, Mandell is expanding beyond the page into a broader platform that includes speaking engagements, workshops, and the development of a custom tarot deck aligned with the book’s teachings. The Butterfly in You Tarot Deck extends the book’s message into a tangible, guided experience. Designed to inspire mindfulness and self-reflection, the deck is elegant and modern, yet ethereal, inviting users to practice on their own or alongside The Butterfly in You for a deeper, more connected experience. Crafted to align with Sheri Mandell’s teachings, the cards support a journey toward clarity, growth, and finding the cure for loneliness, offering a thoughtful resource to deepen one’s connection to self and spirit.

“More than anything, I hope readers walk away realizing they are not alone in their thoughts, their fears, or their patterns. When we begin to look at our lives honestly and ask deeper questions, we discover that change is always possible—and that the transformation we’re searching for has been within us all along.”

The book arrives at a moment when conversations around loneliness, emotional wellbeing, and digital disconnection are gaining urgency across major media and cultural platforms. What sets Mandell’s work apart is its ability to connect these conversations, bridging psychology, spirituality, and modern technology into one cohesive and deeply human narrative.

At its core, The Butterfly in You offers a simple but powerful message: the path out of loneliness doesn’t begin externally, it begins within.

About Sheri Mandell

Sheri Mandell is a mindfulness teacher, author, and advocate for emotional reconnection in an increasingly disconnected world. She believes loneliness is one of the most misunderstood struggles of modern life, and that the patterns keeping us stuck can begin to shift the moment we learn to see them clearly. When people can see their patterns, they can change their lives.

Sheri is the author of The Butterfly in You: Finding the End to Loneliness, a memoir and reflection guide that uses the symbolic journey of tarot’s Major Arcana to explore the emotional patterns that shape our lives, and how we can transform them. Her work draws on the structure of tarot’s first 22 cards as a map of the human experience, guiding individuals from feeling stuck and alone to feeling connected, aware, and empowered. This isn’t about predicting the future, it’s about reclaiming your life.

More than a book, The Butterfly in You is the foundation of a broader cultural movement centered on one idea: returning to self.

Sheri’s work speaks directly to the quiet crisis of digital loneliness, emotional numbness, and the cost of constant stimulation. Through storytelling, ritual, mindfulness, and community-based experiences, she invites people to step out of distraction and back into presence.

Her career has followed an unconventional and deeply creative path. She began in the music industry as an image consultant and stylist, working with major labels including RCA, CBS, and Warner Bros. Records. After stepping away to raise her family, Sheri returned with a renewed purpose, helping people reconnect their minds and bodies in a fast-moving, overstimulated world.

She later trained in holistic health at one of the world’s leading nutrition schools, studying over one hundred dietary theories and earning certification through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. Her journey led her deeper into meditation, where she completed advanced training through the Chopra Center for Wellbeing, focusing on the connection between mindfulness and physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

For more than fifteen years, Sheri has taught mindfulness and meditation to both children and seniors. Through her program, 123 Breathe With Me, she introduces young students to simple breathing techniques and awareness practices that help them regulate emotions, reduce stress, and build a lasting connection to themselves.

At the heart of Sheri’s work is a simple but urgent mission: to help people move through loneliness—not by escaping it, but by understanding it, and ultimately reconnect with who they truly are.

Sheri lives in Lincoln, California with her beloved dog, Jackie, and is the proud mother of two children.
