1. For readers discovering The Lanyards for the first time, how would you describe the band and the sound you’re creating?
A defining feature of our band is that we have no drummer. This, along with the fact that we have piano in the songs we cover and write, creates a unique and chilled sound.
2. How did the band first come together, and what inspired you to start making music as a group?
We met at the start of year 12 and as music lovers, we wanted to be able to create our own songs as well as covering existing songs to give them our own sound.
3. Every band has a unique story. What has been the biggest turning point in The Lanyards’ journey so far?
Our most recent gig at The Shipping Forecast allowed us to make connections with other bands, leading to more gig opportunities.
4. Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how do they shape your songwriting and live performances?
Musically, our songwriting has been influenced by Nikhil (guitar) and Diego’s (piano) love of The Beatles while our lyrics are heavily influence by artists like Gracie Abrams that Amelie (vocals) listens to.
5. Your live shows have been gaining attention. What do you think sets a Lanyards performance apart from others?
I think our genuine friendship and how much we love playing together shows on stage and creates an atmosphere that elevates our performances.

6. What has it been like working with Big Condo Records, and how important has their support been in helping the band reach new audiences?
We had a great experience playing at Aftermath 6 and we’re really grateful for the opportunities we’ve been given by Big Condo Records.
7. The independent music scene is thriving right now. How do you think grassroots events and showcases help emerging artists grow?
They give upcoming artists and bands an opportunity to showcase their music and meet other people with similar aspirations. Through playing at Aftermath 6, we got an opportunity for another gig, playing alongside more amazing emerging artists.
8. Are there any new releases, recordings, videos or creative projects that fans should be excited about over the coming months?
We’re hoping to record an original which we’d love to release as a single or on an EP with some of our favourite covers that we’ve done.
9. Looking back at everything you’ve achieved so far, what are you most proud of as a band?
We played at a local care home which was really rewarding as it allowed us share our love for music while giving back to our community.
10. Looking ahead to the next 12 months, what are the biggest goals for The Lanyards, and where would you love to see the band go from here?
We want to keep playing gigs, with the goal of headlining one in the future. We would also love to travel after our A-Levels, taking the band to new cities and a wider audience across the UK.
