AIONOSA Introduce IRIS, An EP About Starting Over and Finding Beauty in Change

There are moments in life when everything changes before we have had the chance to catch up. Plans shift, perspectives evolve and the things we once saw as disappointments can eventually reveal themselves as something else entirely.

That idea sits at the heart of AIONOSA’s upcoming EP, IRIS — Goddess of Desire.

The three-piece group are building their musical identity around real human experiences, using IRIS as a space to explore growth, change, innocence, desire and the possibility of beginning again. Rather than presenting life as a straightforward journey, AIONOSA are interested in the unexpected turns that shape who we become.

For group leader Zilla, much of the emotional foundation of IRIS comes from reflecting on life after COVID-19. Like many people, that period brought a different understanding of time, relationships, priorities and what it means to appreciate everyday life. Those reflections eventually became part of the creative thinking behind the EP.

One phrase particularly captures the project’s outlook: turning disappointments into appointments.

It is an optimistic idea, but not one that ignores difficult experiences. IRIS recognises that disappointment is part of life. The difference is in what happens afterwards. An ending can create the space for something new, while an unexpected experience can become a lesson that only makes sense with time.

That sense of perspective becomes increasingly important in a world that seems to move faster every day. Technology, culture and relationships are constantly evolving, and keeping up can sometimes make it difficult to simply stop and appreciate where we are.

AIONOSA’s response is to look back towards simplicity.

There is a sense throughout the concept of IRIS that ordinary moments deserve more attention. Starting over does not necessarily have to be dramatic. Sometimes it can mean allowing yourself to see something differently, becoming curious again or simply giving yourself permission to move forward.

The idea of innocence is particularly important to the project.

Rather than treating innocence as something naïve or fragile, AIONOSA view it as a quality worth protecting. Being able to approach the world with curiosity and wonder can be a strength, even after life has provided plenty of reasons to become more guarded.

That gives IRIS an emotional balance. It is rooted in experiences that have shaped the artists, but it is not consumed by the past. The EP looks at what can happen when those experiences become part of a larger process of transformation.

Although Zilla’s personal journey provides much of the project’s emotional starting point, IRIS is ultimately a collective statement from AIONOSA.

The group brings together Zilla, Jojo and Sagwa, three voices contributing to the identity and direction of the project. Their collaboration allows the EP to move beyond a single personal story and become something listeners can interpret through their own experiences.

At its core, IRIS is about perspective.

It is about recognising that life rarely follows the path we expect, and that the things that initially feel like setbacks can sometimes take us somewhere we were meant to go. It is about appreciating simple moments, staying open to possibility and finding beauty without needing everything to be perfect.

For AIONOSA, a new beginning does not mean forgetting what came before.

It means taking everything with you — the lessons, the disappointments, the changes and the memories — and choosing to see them differently.
