Lilliane’s Hollywood EP argues the dream is allowed to change, not die
Lilliane’s debut EP ‘Hollywood’ is out now, and it’s a project that shows us that handling heartbreak isn’t as easy as it seems. The German-South African singer-songwriter has captured the feeling of your heart being broken into a million little pieces, and trying to piece it all back together. But even when it feels like the world is crumbling around you, she knows that it’s not the end, and that there’s beauty to be found in the broken pieces. Lilliane’s five-song EP is a collection of stories about love, heartbreak, loneliness, and growing up, all sonically set within a world of 1970s soft rock, married with the current world of indie-pop.
Since her debut single ‘I Dream of You’ was released in February 2026, Lilliane has been on a journey of self-discovery through music, and the release of ‘Hollywood’ marks the next step in her independent career. The project follows the release of her previous singles, ‘I Dream of You’, ‘Fatal Attraction’, and ‘Fairytale’, while introducing two new songs in the form of the title track, ‘Hollywood’, and ‘Hotel Room’. Lilliane’s debut project is sonically full of influences from the likes of Daisy Jones & The Six, Fleetwood Mac, Mazzy Star, and The Cranberries, using retro influences to create a project with a modern outlook.
The title track, ‘Hollywood’, is a song about the gap between the life that you expect to live and the reality of what life actually brings. It’s a song about big dreams being at odds with accepted reality, and it’s a feeling that Lilliane has been familiar with for most of her life. Since she was a child, Lilliane has always had a habit of dreaming big and picturing how her life would look. As a child, she was particularly interested in celebrities, pop culture, and Los Angeles, and she saw Hollywood as a place where anything could happen. As she grew up and lived through the reality of what Hollywood actually was, she began to realise just how far real life was from the imagined one.
‘I Dream of You’ is a song about a long-distance relationship and the feeling of being apart from the person you love the most. The song was Lilliane’s debut single, and it was the song that sparked the beginning of her independent career. The song went on to reach nearly 20,000 Spotify streams, and it was Lilliane’s first track to make it onto the radio, with the song being played on several stations. After the release of ‘I Dream of You’, Lilliane went on to release ‘Fatal Attraction’ and ‘Fairytale’.
‘Hotel Room’ is a song about the feeling of being alone in a hotel room while travelling for work, and the desire to have your friends and family around you. The next single on the project is the ballad ‘Fairytale’, a song about a relationship changing when a partner begins to have feelings for someone else. The EP ends with the previously released single, ‘Fatal Attraction’, an uptempo song about being in a toxic relationship and wanting to leave it behind. The song ends on a note of empowerment and freedom, a reminder that you always have the power to walk away from a situation that is no longer good for you.
‘Hollywood’ is an EP about accepting life for what it is, good and bad, while still holding onto the big-dreamer outlook that you’ve always had. The project is a reminder that the dream isn’t something that you need to let go of, but that it’s something that is allowed to change.
Since music has always been a huge part of Lilliane’s life, it’s no surprise that she’s found herself pursuing a career in the industry. Music was constantly playing in her childhood home, and she sang in school choirs. As a child, she would sing along to CDs, using an empty deodorant bottle as her microphone. For three years, she studied musical theatre, but she soon found that songwriting was the path that she wanted to take. She still has a love for musical theatre, but she finds that writing her own songs allows her to build her own worlds and stories. Lilliane’s debut EP, ‘Hollywood’, is out now.
‘Hollywood’ was written by Lilliane Koller, Amy Tjasink, Jono Greyling, and Theo Mulder, produced by Jono Greyling and Theo Mulder, mixed by Theo Mulder, and mastered by Theo Mulder. The EP is out now.
