LYRA Turn Life’s Uncertainty Into Cinematic Indie Rock on New EP English Weather

London-based indie rock band LYRA are set to release their highly anticipated new EP, English Weather, on 11 September, bringing together soaring melodies, atmospheric production and emotionally charged storytelling across six ambitious tracks.

Produced and mixed by Larry Hibbitt, known for his work with Nothing But Thieves, Boston Manor and Marmozets, the EP captures LYRA’s distinctive blend of soul-inflected vocals and expansive alternative rock. Drawing influence from artists such as Nothing But Thieves, Wolf Alice, London Grammar and The Amazons, the band balance intimate songwriting with huge, guitar-driven choruses.

At its heart, English Weather is a record about transition. Its six songs explore grief, identity, resilience, uncertainty and the difficult process of finding your place in the world. Each track approaches a different turning point, creating an emotional journey that moves between vulnerability, darkness, warmth and release.

Previous single “Way Out” examines the pursuit of fulfilment and the dangers of connecting self-worth to external validation, while “Run” offers reassurance and a reminder that life’s burdens are rarely carried alone. The title track, “English Weather,” reflects on grief and memory, exploring how those we lose can remain present through the places and moments they leave behind.

The band’s forthcoming single, “Western Standoff,” released on 14 August, takes a cinematic approach to the final moments of a failing relationship, framing its emotional confrontation like a duel beneath the midday sun.

Sonically, LYRA embrace contrast throughout the EP, combining spring reverb-soaked guitars, atmospheric piano, spaghetti-Western whistles and anthemic climaxes. The result is a record that feels both deeply personal and expansive.

With BBC Introducing support already behind the band—including “Run” earning Track of the Week—LYRA are building strong momentum. They will celebrate English Weather with their biggest headline show to date at London’s Troubadour on 10 September, where a limited-edition marble-effect vinyl pressing will also be available.
