The second single from James O’Hurley, ‘Red‘ continues the story of this modern-day troubadours’ journey with music, having nearly abandoned his guitar just a year ago.
Speaking about the track – James says “I had this line in my notebook for about 4 years… ‘Eyes so red’ based on the feeling of pure emotion, from losing someone you weren’t ready to.”
Far from being a sad song, RED has an upbeat feel and the tone and pentameter depict the uplifting tale of transience and transition. An intriguing juxtaposition to the lyrical content and story behind the track –though one that affirms using the past to build back better. An accurate reflection of James’ career
transition.
One of the standout tracks from the album, featuring Pete Briley on an instrumental array and backing vox. With production and mixing from Erim Ahmet – James has created a track which binds together perfectly and while in stark contrast to the feel of his debut release (EVIL), this single showcases the undeniable talent from this emerging artist and an exciting indication of what is yet to come.
James released his solo debut single “EVIL” on 05/04/24 and is making his mark with some excellent reviews:
I think the track is one so many people will love. It’s undeniably unique and it sets a strong foundation for James that I’m excited to see him build upon. The simplicity yet still detailed elements of ‘Evil’ make it a song that is easy listening but with a lot to unpack. (Northern Exposure)

Two minutes isn’t very long to make an impression, and nor is it too long to check out a new artist. Theres more to come… make sure you’re one of the first in the know Atmospheric rather than flashy, O’Hurley successfully conjures a mood of foreboding; the kind of song you can imagine soundtracking something disconcerting on film or TV. This track has depth and texture… James’ sound is playful, stylish and highly listenable (Accidental Music Reviewer)

From the very first notes, “Evil” captivates listeners with its brooding atmosphere and evocative lyrics. (Jace Media)
